A little info on the ancestors of Bob Thomas in Gloucester County - Ganttown Rd - near Turnersville, NJ

Recently I have taken an interest in Genealogy - fortunately some of my relatives have also. One of them used her/our family history in writing her master's thesis. Her name is Karen Lynn (Gant) Heiser. She is a graduate of and an employee of Rowan University. She grew up in Glassboro, NJ.

You can click on the link to download the Word Doc that she created. I recommend downloading the link and then opening the file. Enjoy!

Gant Genealogy

If you are ever poking around any antique stores or shops in the area and find photos labeled with the Gant family on the back please let me know ASAP. I would like to find some more photos of the relatives.

If you get interested in this at all - Howard Underwood Gant - whose daughter typed this up - is still alive and lives on Glassboro - Cross Keys Rd. He loves to share his knowledge of his family.

The thing in this that really caught my eye was the family picnic photo taken in August 1908 that is Appendix O. My grandfather, Ernest Thomas, is in the photo with the rest of his family. He is sitting on the grass down in the front. It is the only childhood photo of my grandfather that I have - but he looks almost identical to photos of my father and brother at the same age. Ernest and Howard worked together and knew each other at Owens-Illinois factory in Glassboro - but they never really put it together that they were cousins of some sort.

I had seen that photo before but only as a xerox of the original and it was tough to make out any of the faces.

Here's my link to Ganttown

Samuel Gant came to the Turnersville area -
you can see a photo of his grave at the link below
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=6756262

......He had a son Richard Gant

............Richard had a daughter Abigail

......................Abigail married Charles Flexon (both in the 1908 photo)

....................................Their daughter Maggie married Samuel Thomas (both in the photo)

...............................................Their son Ernest Thomas (also in the photo) married my grandmother Olive

...................................................................Their son Robert was my father

Some day I would like to put that photo in the middle of a web page and try to trace out each of their lives. I have joined ancestry.com and I can run my mother's father's Estilow/Estlow/Estlo family back to New Amsterdam (NYC before the British took over). As for Ernie Thomas - I have the photo of his father in this photo. I haven't been able to learn much about his father's father - or too far back on the Thomas side.

Has any one in your family taken an interest in genealogy?
